Weymouth, wind surfing and a wonderful Olympic day out

Something a little different on the blog today - the Olympics are nearly over and its been an amazing time for British athletes so I wanted to share some personal photos today. We weren't lucky enough to have tickets for any of the Olympic events but that hasn't stopped us loving every minute of it and we spent a fabulous day at Weymouth watch the wind surfing (from a distance on the beach) and the sailing (an even bigger distance!!).

It was our first family visit to Weymouth, a picturesque fishing harbour town looking fabulous decked out for the Olympics.  There were many of the traditional sea side events still running such as Punch & Judy shows as well as many free sports events laid on for kids to try out - golf, table tennis and canoeing to name just a few. Jack loved trying them all out!  We made out way up to the top of the beach and sat watching the wind surfing.  We could just make out the British windsurfer Nick Dempsey on his way to a silver medal -  it was a great day and made us feel part of the Olympic spirit.

Golden Wedding Anniversary in Dorset

Its amazing just how many wedding anniversaries there are at the end of July - both my parents and my husbands parents also married on the last weekend in July. They of course were teachers and keen to make it the first weekend of the summer holidays which goes someway to expaining the appeal of this weekend. This year it was the turn of Ralph and Freda to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary and great to see two people still happily married and enjoying life together.  They had a celebration with their family & friends which included son Clive and his american wife Lisa - friends of my husband and I from our days when we were living in the USA.

It was a lovely day, the rain stopped midday and the sun came out which allowed everyone to enjoy the garden which was looking splendid thanks to Ralph's green fingers! We enjoyed catching up with old friends and I captured some great pictures of the couple with their family and friends - some of my favourite from the day are below.
